Safeguarding

Safeguarding

Wychwood CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. Staff work hard to maintain an environment where children feel safe and secure. The curriculum is designed to ensure opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to recognise and stay safe from abuse including whilst accessing the internet. Children know that they can approach any of the adults in school if they are worried and that they will receive a consistent supportive response. In recognising our responsibilities for Safeguarding and Child Protection, as a school we:
• Have clear staff recruitment and selection procedures, ensuring that all staff (including volunteers) who have unsupervised access to children, have been appropriately checked for their suitability through the DBS procedure.
• Aim to raise awareness of child protection issues and equip children with the skills needed to keep them safe.
• Develop and implement procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases of abuse.
• Establish a safe and nurturing environment free from discrimination or bullying where children can learn and develop happily. If you would like to know more about our policy or procedures for Safeguarding, please speak to Rachel Stratford (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or Joseph Rubba (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead).   Jill Mavin and Cat Chatburn are our Lead Governors for Safeguarding.

Site Security

The school strives to keep the site safe and secure. Our morning procedure of children entering the school at 8:30 through designated doors monitored by school staff, means children enter the school in an orderly fashion and we do not have unknown adults entering the school building. Any child arriving after 8.40a.m. needs to enter the school via the office where the adult bringing them needs to make office staff aware of their late arrival. At the end of day staff ensure KS1 parents/carers are present before letting the children leave.  KS2 children make their way to the playground with class teachers. Children in Year 5/6 walk home independently if their parent/carer has completed a permission slip.

All visitors including parents making visits to the school during the school day must report to the main reception and sign the visitors’ book. Visiting professionals are expected to carry identification and wear a visitor badge. Visiting professionals working with children are required to provide proof of their enhanced CRB before they commence work with children.

Internet Safety

We are keen to work with you to embrace the digital world in which our children are growing up in.  Empowering our children to keep themselves safe in the online world – both at school and at home – is a priority.

Our ICT and E-Learning policies provide details on how children are taught to use the Internet and Email responsibly in school and when using such resources out of school. We require parents and pupils to sign the Internet Agreement form on an annual basis to reinstate the importance of keeping safe. Staff monitor pupils use of the Internet and Email in school and should be the first point of contact if parents have any concern. Where parents have a concern of a child protection/safeguarding nature, they should contact the headteacher.
