Ancient Egyptian Challenge Day

Yesterday in Year 3 and 4 the children were challenged to become Ancient Egyptian engineers. We looked at the Egyptian Shaduf (A lever system designed to help lift water from The River Nile) and the children worked together to design, make and evaluate their own using only the equipment provided to them.

"It was so much fun making our shaduf together. Me and Eva were so impressed with it.

It was difficult but we still enjoyed it!" - Imogen Y3

"Our shaduf wasn't successful at first because the bucket kept dropping out the water.

Then we re-made the bucket and covered it in masking tape and it didn't leak anywhere!" Ella-Mae Y4

The children worked hard and showed good teamwork and many of the shadufs created were successful at lifting water!
