The Curriculum and the Term Ahead

Our Key Stage topic this term is “Dungeons and Dragons”. This topic will be brought to life with an exciting trip to Warwick Castle. Children will learn about the history of castles and how castles were designed to defend against attackers. The children will be learning about how to become a knight and explore the different designs and styles of shields. This will link to our DT day where children will create their own shield.

In English, the children will be creating their own dragon poems. The author and poet, John Foster will be coming in to host a workshop with the children which we are sure will inspire them! Children will also look at writing recounts, following our Warwick Castle trip and writing instructions about how to become a knight. In mathematics the children will spend the term reviewing the skills learnt across the year in preparation for next year.

The children will be participating in PE and swimming. Please ensure PE kits are brought into school on Monday and are taken home each Friday. Children will be participating in tennis lessons later on in the term. To avoid the loss of clothing please ensure that ALL items are clearly labelled.

Phonics Screening

Next week, the Year One children and some of the Year Two children will be taking the national phonics screening checks. We have tried to make this as low key as possible in the past and children are extremely familiar with the process as they have had daily phonics lessons in preparation for this.

Swords and Shields Day

As part of ‘Swords and Shields’ Day, children will be creating their own shields. If you have any larger pieces of cardboard or large boxes that we could flatten, we would be grateful if you could bring these in.

We hope that you are ready for a busy term. As always, if you have any concerns or wish to discuss any issues please do not hesitate to make an appointment with your class teacher.

Thank you for your support.
